Sumiko is a mage and a mid-level kobun or member of the Shigenda-gumi, the Shigeda syndicate, a powerful gang of yakuza oeprating in Seattle. She is a pure-blood japanese, in her late thirties, and very attractive. She was trained by a major corp in Japan before becoming fed up with the ingrained sexism of the traditional zaibastu structure, and emigrating to Seattle, where she established contacts with the underworld. The Shigenda rewarded her performance of various missions with increased responsibilities, and she formally entered the gang four years ago. She is equally at home at a cut-throat boardroom meeting or in the midst of a throat-cutting gang fight in an alley. She can be the very image of subdued, oriental femininity one minute and all cold-blooded efficiency the next
Sumiko has noi foolish notions of honour or courage. She leads her soldiers from the rear, pregers to shoot from ambush, and adheres to the yakuza code only so far as it is part of her obligation to the Shigenda. She will kill, without heitation, anyone who is in her way. If given the opportunity to damage her opponent, she will take it.
