GM Section

- Node 1 - SAN - Red-3
- No unauthorised visitors wanted
- Trace and Dump 4
- The SAN appears as the towering gate house of a classic samurai castle. A high, pagoda-like tower blocks the decker's way, with a massive, closed and barred gate in its centre. If the decker fails to deceive the gate, then its attempt to warn the system takes the forms of clanging bells and shrill gongs.
- Node 2 - SPU - Orange-5
- Access 6
- The SPU appears as an eight sided walled enclosure, guarded by a fierce-looking samurai warrior armed with a conch-shell trumpet. If the IC is not deceoved, the warrior tries to sound the alarm on his trumpet.
- Node 3 - SPU - Green-4
- Barrier 3
- The SPU appears as an eight-sided garden, with bonsai trees set among lovingly raked stones. In the centre, a clear pool shimmers. In its depths, data transfers flash like golden fish. A high wall blocks one end of the garden. This is the Barrier Ice,
- Node 4 - I/OP
- This is an I/OP connecting to a spohpisticated range of bioscanners, holographic imaging systems, and so on. It allows Soroyama to feed data on his subjects directly into the computer. The I/OP appears as a long gallery running along the castle walls. Each window in the gallery wall presents a different scene. Each scene is the input from an imaging device.
- Node 5 - Slave Modules
- These are Slave Modules controlling a vast array of surgical gear. The SM appears as a busy courtyard filled with craftsmen. Though they are dressed as japanese peasants of the samurai era, they wield glittering, high-tech surgical tools, and on their workbenches are quivering pieces of human bodies.
- Node 6 - SPU - Red-4
- Killer 4
- This SPU is a large armoury, crammed with armour, katana, and other samurai weapons. It is guarded by a mighty warrior in full armour, wielding a great katana.
- Node 7 - Datastore - Red-4
- Access 5
- Tar Pit ICE
- The node appears as a busy counting house for the castle's business transactions. The entrance is guarded by a "nightingale floor", a feudal Japanese burglar alarm that makes loude screeching noises when someone walks across it. If the ICE is not deceived, that is just what it will do. In additon, when Tar Pit is triggered, the floor drops away, revealing a bottomless pit. The lost utility will fall into the pit, vanishing from sight.
- Each file in the store appears as a scroll or, in the case of a database, a rack of scrolls. This is Soroyama's main customer record store. There is one big database of about 5,000 Mp. Scanning this shows transactions for typical modifications on about a thousand clients. A typical entry might read: "Joe Samurai/Muscle Implane Level 2/150,000 cr for reduced invasive surgury/performed 2049/03/24". These data entries have not particular value.
- There is also a smaller database, about 1,000 Mp in size. These are the records for Sorotama's "masterpieces". If using Browse to search through the database, the keywords "84 Sorayama", "Aztechnology", and even "Mercurial" will work. Reading the file will also work, as there are only about 120 entries. The decker will find the one containing references to maria with no trouble if he takes the time to read all 1,000 Mp of data. Maria's file is 20 Mp in size, and can be downloaded without teh need to download the whole 1,000 Mp database. Relevant portions of the file added to Maria Mercurial entry.
- Node 8 - Datastore - Red-4
- Black ICE 5
- This is Sorayama's research and Development data area. This Datastore appears as a quiet courtyard in a Buddhist temple. It is spare, clean, and bare of any vegentation. The courtyard surface is raked gravel, with eight rocks positioned artfully here and there. Each rock is covered with artwork, which is actually a file. One might be a sumi-e ink painting, another might look like an inctricately carved netsuke piece, while a third is a gracefully pained fan. Each of the files can be best represented as an ink painting.
- new designs for cybermods, circuit designs, and other valuable tech are here. There are eight files, worth 20,000 cr per 10 Mp with sizes of, respectively, 50, 80, 120, 50, 40, 60, 90 and 40 Mp. If selling the data through a fence, this stuff counts as high-tech and hot loot! Sorayama will be looking for the thieves through yakuza connections. If they discover the meet, half a dozen yakuza will show up to kill the thieves and their fence (yakuza code in this case calls for death of both venders and receivers of stolen goods).
- Each file contains designs for cybermodifications to be installed for 25 to 50 percent less (reduce strain cost), though this doubles the price. These are custom speficiation, which data-thieves cannot mass-market, and each installation risks Yakuza interest in the chop shop performing the installation.
- Node 9 - CPU - Red-5
- Trace and Burn 6
- Black-4 ICE
- System operation permits transfer of funds (500,000 cr) which must be fenced normally. For purpose of downloading, this is a 100 Mp file. The credit file is guarded by Black-4 ICE.
- The CPU appears as the Great Hall of a mighty daimyo, or samurai lord. He sits brooding upon a dais at its far end. Beside him is a huge lacquer chest, open to reveal the glint of gold. Behind the chest looms the figure of an oni, a Japanese demon, bearing a powerful longbow (the Black ICE). The doors to the room are guarded by two Fu dogs, the fierce lion-hounds that guard Japanese temples from evil. Flmaes and smoke issues from their gaping mouths. These represent the Trace and Burn Ice. If the two dogs are released, one will remain to face the decker in combat while the other runs into the distance, howling and snuffling, to trace the decker's path. If the decker deceives or kills either of them, the ICE crashes.
- If the system goes into External Alert, Sorayama has access to the services of two deckers from a Japanese yakuza syndicate. These are "major leaue" opposition, and Sorayama can contact them in a minute if his system displays an external alert. In deference to Sorayama's wishes, these deckers maintain samurai Persona while in his sytem.
