Mystara of the Five Spheres D&D Downtime Event of Pit Fighting

USES ONE OF THE DOWNTIME ACTIVITIES FOR THE DURATION

Downtime activity for Pit Fighting. You find a fighting ring to participate in during the week of downtime and manage to get into the weekend bouts.

Check - Characters spend one or more weeks of downtime before making three checks: Strength (Athletics), Dexterity (Acrobatics) and Constitution (+ largest hit dice). If you are proficient with weapon, you can replace any of the three checks with the weapon attack roll. You can accept a complication to gain a success. A natural 1 removes a success, a natural 20 adds an extra success.

For the check you can choose any of the skills you can convince the GM is appropiate for the check.

• Base Check DC = 10 (+1 for each settlement size beyond none, or 5+2d20 during play for each of the three checks to gain the result)

• Cost per Week (What you need to make the check in session)
• 10 gp multiplied by the settlement size plus lifestyle.
• The purse for the settlement is equal to the Money limit of the settlement itself.
• Check (What you need to make the check in session, between sessions the d20 in the check is replaced by 10)
• 3x Skill or Tool Check = d20 + skill (or tool) bonus + Settlment Modifier + Lifestyle Modifier + Renown
• Note Checks are usually Strength (Athletics), Dexterity (Acrobatics) and Constitution (+ roll largest hit dice) with the tool being fighing competition.

Check Result
• No Success – You accrue a debt equal to the purse.
• One Success – Lose half the money of the purse.
• Two Success – Gain the half the purse.
• Three Success – Gain the purse. Your consided the settlement champion and have been invited back the following year to contend for the crown again. With a +1 for each year you have been the champion of this settlement.
• Four or more Success – Gain double the purse (+1 to multiplier for each success beyond the 4th), and be banned from gambling in this settlement in the future. (if the settlment has higher tier options you have graduated to that tier early, or allowed to compete in a nearby one if it does not).

Complications - For each point you increase your check to a success, you owe an extra weeks worth of the weekly costs. Then you roll on the complications table.

OLD VERSION

Pit Fighting - Removed the ability to fight for more than one week for a bonus to the roll. I have changed out the 5% cost for each point you missed to be another weeks worth of costs.

Downtime Checks - You can make a roll at the table, or take 10 if your doing it off scene between adventures away from the gaming table. Allowing for characters to have a baseline without having to roll in a session means they will succeed at most downtime tasks without having a critical fail, or success. This allows for long downtimes of months to years as necessary for the storyline so its not just number crunching and dice rolls. If the character can beat the target number by 10 or more when taking 10 you can consider the check a critical success, and if the check would fail by more than 10 you can consider it a critical failure. This allows for room for improvement and shows times when characters should not be attempting the checks.
