- Star Wars (FFG Edge of the Empire (begginers)
- Group: Friday (D&D Week)
- Session Session 69 to 73 (5 sessions)
- 31st July 2015 to 25th September 2015
- Players: Nathan L - Cillian (5), Mel D - Nibsani (5), Shannan D - Pratorian (5), Fiona B - Ms Pointy (4), Kristy C - Anaval (4), John H - Mallok (2), Paul W - Qrty (1)
I ran this adventure from the 31st of July 2015 to 25th September 2015, over 5 sessions.
Note: This group of players was incapable of playing the game with the pre-generated characters to learn the rules with the story as intended. Some of them also blatantly cheated using material outside the character creation guidelines and I am glad I have nothing to do with those players again. I don't recommend playing a game of this with custom characters, use the pre-gens as you will get more out of the game. The use of personal characters here is an example of where I was subject to player bullying as it was a threat of walkout and not play by people who said they were my friend. In the end they walked out after the next mini-campaign and I never interacted with them again. I can say that my life has been better without that drama. Of the seven in this game I still keep in contact with only two. This also happened during the time my disability forced me out of work and I lost the ability to pay off my house and moved into a toxic household for a few years.
Pregen vs Built Characters
- The pre-gen characters in the box:
- 41-VEX - Colonist (Droid)
- Lowhhrick - Hired Gun (Wookiee)
- Oskara - Bounty Hunter (Twi'lek)
- Pash - Smuggler (Human)
- The expanded characters from the website:
- Mathus - Technician (Human)
- Sasha - Explorer (Human)
These are fairly balanced characters and I expect the core character to be Pash in this storyline, though you could do without him, it makes easier work for the GM.
This game's concessions was to allow players to build their own characters under the condition that they only use the Core Rulebook. This was away from the beginner game ideal, as it provided four balanced characters in the box and two downloadable characters to expand the group out to six characters which seems to be a good fit for Star Wars tables.
The unfortunate side is that players (being who they are) did not listen and cherry picked from all the books. What this means is they found races, gear and talents that were not in the Core Book and brought them into the game. I was given an ultimatum to accept it or they would not play. This was also put forward in a way that meant that if they could not cheat then the rest of the players would also pull out. This is actually a form of GM Bullying and while I allowed it as they were supposed to be friends, I was not happy with this group and was considering options of cancelling the game as it had over stepped the mark with this treatment. I thought if I could get through the game and talk it through with the players they would be more accepting and work with me for the next game.
Storyline - Escape from Mos Shuuta
The box also comes with a map of Mos Shuuta and The "Krayt Fang" a YT-1300 in the same series as the Millennium Falcon, though a rusty orange colour. You also get a set of Dice and counters, which is cool as all the other bits of the box are worth far more than just the Dice and its comparable in price ($10 more US) so quite good playability to introduce players and have dice for the table. The map here was used ongoing in the three year campaign run later.
The box comes with an adventure "Escape from Mos Shuuta" and you can continue the story with "The Long Arm of the Hutt".
Characters start on Tatooine and spend the first adventure trying to escape the planet learning the base rules as you go. You get to meet the following characters in the adventure:

- Gamorrean Thugs (rival)
- Vorn Tel-Ovis, Human Male Shop Owner (rival)
- Spaceport Security Droids (rival)

- Trex, Trandoshan Slaver (nemesis)
- Imperial TIE Fighter Pilot (minion)
And the following vehicles:
- TIE Fighter - TIE/LN Starfighter
- Krayt Fang - Customised YT-1300 Light Freighter
Storyline - The Long Arm of the Hutt
Once they start "The Long Arm of the Hutt" they travel to Rodia, then to Geonisia before heading back to Tatooine. You get to meet the following characters in the adventure:
- B'ura B'an (Twi'lek no stats)
- Thwheek - Kubaz Spy - (Rival)
- Nyn Kablo (Twi'lek no stats)
- Bounty Hunters - (Rival)
- Human and Aqualish Thugs (minions)

Concluding Thoughts
After trying this with character generation from the Core Rules, I found it painful and not fun to run. The reason not to use the pre-gens was flimsy and catered to one to two of the six players and penalised one to two of them who really needed to go through the written scenario as is. So as a recommendation, use the pre-gens, learn the system, then build characters later once you know how the system works.
This set of beginner storyline focus on Ranged Combat, Space Travel and Starships, so make sure you experience them all as part of the storyline.
